Drone Pilot Flies Through a Tornado to Capture Its Awesome Power

Drone Pilot Flies Through a Tornado to Capture Its Awesome Power — An FPV drone pilot in Oklahoma accomplished an extraordinary feat by flying a GoPro-equipped drone directly into a powerful EF5 tornado. The drone pilot, Luke Bredar, partnered with storm-chasers Ricky Forbes and Braydon Morisseau to pursue severe storms and document their intensity from a unique aerial perspective.

Determined to capture its awesome power, Bredar launched his FPV drone while wearing goggles inside a moving vehicle, allowing the team to escape quickly if the tornado shifted direction. The drone penetrated the swirling vortex, delivering rare close-up footage from inside the storm — a perspective impossible to witness safely with the naked eye.

During one attempt, the drone lost connection and crashed in a nearby field, but the team later retrieved it. The tornado, officially classified as EF5, produced winds over 238 mph and was strong enough to derail more than 30 freight train cars, each weighing over 72,000 pounds.

This remarkable achievement highlights both the dangers and the technological possibilities of modern FPV drone piloting — especially when capturing extreme weather phenomena.
