BYD Cars to Feature DJI Drones for Aerial Recording and Road Surveillance

Updated: Apr 5

BYD Cars to Feature DJI Drones: BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, has joined forces with DJI, the leading drone producer, to expand the integration of on-vehicle drone systems.

DJI dominates nearly 70% of the global drone market, offering models for both recreational users—such as the Mini 3, available on Amazon for under $500—and professional applications. Meanwhile, BYD recently surpassed Tesla in EV sales and is also the world’s second-largest battery manufacturer.

The two industry giants plan to officially unveil their vehicle drone launch system on March 2. BYD has already released a teaser with the tagline: "With eyes that can think, frame every moment of the excitement of traveling." This suggests that the drones will be used to capture aerial footage of the car’s journey, emphasizing the growing significance of drone recordings in various scenarios.

BYD is no stranger to drone integration. Its high-end U8 Off-road Master Edition SUV, priced at over $150,000, already features a built-in drone system. According to BYD, the drone enhances the driver’s ability to "better understand their surroundings," making it a valuable tool for off-road adventures in remote areas.

This new collaboration with DJI, however, aims to introduce the integrated drone system to a wider range of BYD’s vehicles, including more affordable models. The company recently launched its God’s Eye autonomous driving system, which, unlike Tesla’s recently introduced and still-evolving FSD in China, will be offered free of charge in BYD’s EV lineup.

By adding unique features such as DJI’s drone system, BYD is positioning itself as a more competitive alternative to Tesla, which just unveiled its refreshed Model Y in China. With aggressive pricing and innovative options, BYD is set to strengthen its foothold in the EV market.
